CAT 2026 Mock Analysis: Turn Mistakes into a Revision Plan

Short answer

Analyse a CAT mock by reviewing your decisions, classifying each error and selecting a small number of fixes for the next week. Track accuracy and question selection alongside the score. The routine below is an editorial study method, not an official CAT rule or a promise of a particular percentile.

Analyse a CAT mock by reviewing your decisions, classifying each error and selecting a small number of fixes for the next week. Track accuracy and question selection alongside the score. The routine below is an editorial study method, not an official CAT rule or a promise of a particular percentile.

What should you record immediately after a mock?

Before looking at explanations, note which passages or sets felt difficult, where you spent too long and why you skipped questions. Record section scores, attempted questions, correct answers and time spent where the platform provides it. Use comparable mocks for trends: differences in difficulty can make raw scores misleading. A percentile from a coaching platform is not an official CAT percentile.

How should you classify errors?

Use five categories: concept gap, calculation or reading error, question selection, time allocation and unsupported guess. Give each wrong answer one main cause and one correction. Also inspect correct answers that took too long or depended on luck. A good score can hide a fragile method, while a disappointing score can contain sensible choices worth preserving.

For VARC, explain why the chosen option is supported by the passage and why your option fails. For DILR, reconstruct the set and identify the clue you missed or the table you should have drawn. For quantitative questions, solve again without the explanation, then compare methods. Copying a solution into a notebook is less useful than reproducing the reasoning independently.

What does a useful error log look like?

Record mock date, section, question or set, cause, correction and reattempt date. For example: DILR set 2; started without organising conditions; draw a labelled table first; reattempt Wednesday. Another entry might be: VARC inference; chose a statement stronger than the passage; underline the evidence before selecting; review Friday. Keep entries short enough to revisit.

Suppose a quantitative section contains 12 attempts and eight correct responses. Its attempt accuracy is 8/12, about 66.7%; that calculation does not establish your score because scoring rules and question types matter. If three errors came from rushed arithmetic, the next action is a focused calculation drill plus a check step, rather than studying five unrelated chapters.

How do you convert analysis into the next seven days?

Pick two repeated weaknesses and one decision habit. On days one and two, revise the underlying ideas and attempt a few untimed questions. On days three and four, practise a timed set. On day five, reattempt the original errors without viewing solutions. On day six, try a section test; on day seven, review whether the same mistake returned. Adapt this cycle to your actual schedule.

Do not automatically increase mock frequency when analysis is unfinished. A mock should produce actions you can complete before the next comparable test. If fatigue causes repeated errors, reduce the session length and review your routine. Track improvement over several tests instead of reacting to one result.

Which official CAT details should you check?

The official CAT 2026 website lists test day as 29 November and admit-card downloads beginning 4 November. Read the current bulletin, official mock when available and admit-card instructions for the actual format and test-day requirements. This article deliberately avoids inventing a 2026 question count or marking scheme.
